‘The Hotel Inspector’ on the hunt for pubs for new series
The renowned businesswoman and hotelier is on the lookout for pubs, hotels, venues and tourist attractions that are struggling.
The Hotel Inspector television programme has been running for 17 series and regularly receives more than 1m views.
The programme, which is Channel 5’s longest-running series, shows Polizzi examining staffing, menus, décor and branding before aiming to breathe new life into the nation’s pubs with rooms, B&Bs, guest houses and hotels.
Each hour-long episode looks at how she works to improve the fortunes of each business, increasing occupancy, pushing up profit margins and fixing ruined reputations.
Remit expanded
In the new show, Polizzi will expand her remit to include all types of hospitality businesses from pubs to wedding venues, holiday parks to tourist attractions and leisure centres to restaurants.
Polizzi comes from a long line of hoteliers and has more than 20 years’ experience under her belt.
In 2021, she opened the Star in Alfriston, East Sussex with her mother Olga Polizzi. They acquired the 37-bedroom property – parts of which date back to the 13th century – in 2019 and it was the focus of the programme My Hotel Nightmare, which showed the plight of the venue’s extensive refurbishment.
The Star was once a Heritage Hotel – part of the Forte hotel empire owned by Olga’s father Charles Forte.
Business details
Upon taking on the site, Olga said: “My home is in this part of the world and I’ve always longed for the opportunity to open a hotel in Sussex.
“When the Star Inn came on the market, Alex and I were immediately interested in the project.
“We want it to be an integral part of the community and provide a welcoming environment for all, from walkers to opera goers.”
This was part of the Polizzi Collection, which also has Hotel Tresanton in St Mawes, Cornwall and Hotel Endsleigh in Dartmoor, Devon.
