August 2017 pub openings
Pub refurbishments this month have included Oakman Inns flagship site, the Akeman, in Tring, Hertfordshire.
The pub, which is run by Peter Borg-Neal's son Eamonn, was the very first Oakman Inn and will celebrate its 10th anniversary in December.
On completion of this project, Oakman will have refurbished all of its first five sites over a period of two years – the Akeman; the Old Post Office in Wallingford, Oxfordshire; the Red Lion in Water End, Hertfordshire; the Kings Arms in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire; and the Blue Boar in Witney, Oxfordshire.
Another pub refurbishment includes the Cutty Sark, which overlooks Falmouth Bay in Cornwall. The venue reopened its doors after nine months following a £150,000 refurbishment project jointly funded by Ei Publican Partnerships and the new publicans.
Additonally, the Victoria at Lostock Hall, near Preston, Lancashire, has reopened after a five-week closure for a £250,000 refurbishment by Heineken-owned Star Pubs & Bars and north-west pub operator Ian Molyneux. The pub is Molyneux’s fifth leased site and his fourth with Star Pubs & Bars.
The Victoria has been given a new name as well as a new look and is now called the Vic after its local nickname. The investment has added a live entertainment area, a new games room and a pizza oven, making the Vic the first pub in Lostock Hall to serve food for many years.
