BrewDog to open more London bars
Morning Advertiser sister title MCA reported today (1 September) that the Scottish firm was in advanced talks to open a unit in Minster Court later this year, after previously stating it was keen to launch more London sites.
Earlier BrewDog announced it would give away 20% of its profits, half of which would go to charity.
Around 10% of its profits will now be shared out equally among staff every year and another 10% will be given to charities chosen by the brewer’s workforce and investors, it said.
‘BrewDog we care’
Of the move, which is being labelled the Unicorn Fund, co-founder James Watt said: “At BrewDog, we care about two things above all else; our beer and our people.
“We want to make the best beers on the planet, we want to be the best company to work for, and we want to build a radically new type of business that we can all be proud of.
“Giving away 20% of our profits – forever – is not about altruism. It is about impact. It’s not about profits. It is about purpose. This is the biggest community-fuelled, crowdfunded charity contribution in history.”
In July the ‘punk’ brewer revealed it had plans to build a third brewery in Australia to compliment its Aberdeen and Ohio, US, operations.
BrewDog’s website
A statement on BrewDog’s website said: “Committed to shortening the distance between ourselves and the people who enjoy our beer.
“Just as our US Equity Punk community are now enjoying home-brewed BrewDog beer, our Australian shareholders and customers will be able to do the same.”
Newcastle in New South Wales and Queensland capital Brisbane have been marked as two potential locations for the new brewery.
Meanwhile, BrewDog announced the return of two of its strongest beers, including 32% ABV Tactical Nuclear Penguin.
