Disruption is Brewing wins SIBA regional final
The Camberley, Surrey-based brewer and taproom operator won the top cask beer award at the Society of Independent Brewers (BIBA) contest and will now go forward to the national final at BeerX in Liverpool next month.
Its Chaos More Chaos 5% ABV beer is described as a session New England pale ale, which impressed judges at the event that took place at Big Penny Social Club in Walthamstow, east London.
Cram in flavour
Disruption is Brewing head brewer John Willats said: “It’s a New England-style pale ale and honestly we just try to cram in as much flavour as possible.
“It’s a core range IPA and we’re honestly so chuffed to win this, to be a gold medal winner is amazing but to win the overall among our peers is unbelievable. It’s a team effort and it’s just amazing that people appreciate it.”
The SIBA Independent Beer Awards take place in eight regions across the UK and the winners, including Disruption is Brewing, will now make their way to the final in the north-west.
Huge win
SIBA chair of competitions Anneli Baxter added: “It’s incredibly tough to win your beer style category at the SIBA Independent Beer Awards, it is even harder to then go on and take the overall champion award in the final judging, and as such I would like to congratulate Disruption on a huge win in what was a hotly contested competition.”
Disruption held off competition from The Flower Pots Brewery’s Cheriton Porter (4.2% ABV) in silver position while bronze was taken by Only With Love’s Firecracker ESB (5.2% ABV).
Other category winners were Cellar Head Brewing Company’s Fireside (5.2% ABV) in the British Dark Beer 4.5% to 6.4% section; Common Pale Ale (3.7% ABV) from The Wimbledon Brewery, in British Bitter up to 4.4%; By The Horns Brewing Co’s Hopadelic (4.3% ABV), in Session Pale Ale up to 4.4%; in IPA 5.6% and over, Wasteland (10% ABV) from Windsor and Eton Brewery; and in Speciality Amber to Dark Beer, Small Beer Brew’s Small Beer Stream (2.7% ABV) took bronze as the sole entrant.
