Greene King raises more than £5k for Macmillan
The funds were raised at a charity golf tournament, which took place at The Letchworth Golf Club in Hertfordshire over an 18-hole golf course, organised by members of the Pub Partners operations team in the south-east.
Greene King Pub Partners managing director Dan Robinson said: “We’re delighted to have raised more than £5,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, as well as give our partners a great day of golf.
Significant sums
“Thank you to all our partners, suppliers and team members who made the charity tournament possible. Without you we wouldn’t have raised these significant sums.”
Suppliers including Budweiser Brewing Group UK&I, Heineken and Cubitts also participated in the tournament.
A total of 20 teams entered the competition, ranging from single-site and multiple operators with Greene King Pub Partners, to sector suppliers and Greene King members of staff.
The winning team was from Greene King site The Kings Arms in Stow, Cheltenham.
Moreover, a charity auction was also held at the end of the event to top up the amount fundraised for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Greene King said the money raised will “help the charity continue to do whatever it takes to provide vital care and support for people living with cancer”.
Phenomenal fundraising efforts
This comes as the operator and brewer last month announced it had hit its £1m fundraising target for the charity’s Emergency Grant’s Appeal, bringing the total amount raised over the last 11 years of the pubco’s partnership with Macmillan to more than £14.5m
Regarding the £1m target achievement, Greene King CEO Nick Mackenzie said: “This is yet again another amazing achievement from Greene King colleagues.
“I would like to thank them for their phenomenal fundraising efforts and their continued commitment to do whatever it takes to support people living with cancer.”
