How to cook 8 Top 50 Gastropub dishes
North Yorkshire pub the Star Inn, Harome, was named the best gastropub in the country earlier this year (January) at the 2017 Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropub Awards.
Chef and owner of the pub, Andrew Pern told MA it felt "absolutely bloody amazing" to have claimed the top spot.
The pub lost its Michelin star in 2011 but, after much hard work, regained it in 2015 and has retained it since.
Self-taught chef
Stephen Harris's Kent pub, the Sportsman, came in at second place on this year's list and was also named the UK's best restaurant in the 2017 Estrella Damm National Restaurant Awards.
The self-taught, Michelin-starred chef has maintained his coveted star for eight years and took the number one spot on the top 50 list in 2015 and 2016.
Another chef-patron, Jesse Dunford Wood from Parlour in Kensal Green, west London, was at number 38 on this year's Top 50 Gastropubs list.
Evolving menus
Guests are treated to a variety of dishes on the menu, including funky salads, kyivs, souffles through to cow pies, the menu keeps the imagination alive and crackling with anticipation for what's next.
Parlour's menus evolve throughout the day so whether diners fancy some DIY toast or the (No Subs) Fuller Parlour Breakfast, there is something for them regardless of the time.
Another gastropub with an ever-evolving menu is the St Tudy Inn, Cornwall, where dishes combine chef-patron Emily Scott's passion for beautiful food with the best Cornish produce.
The pub was 'One to Watch' at the 2016 Top 50 Gastropubs, where stand-out sample dishes mentioned were artichoke with white bean, Vulscombe and rocket salad; monkfish with saffron, cream and rocket; and chocolate mousse baked quince.
