Troubleshoot SEED Files
Common SEED Opening Problems
Missing Ubuntu
Double-clicking your SEED file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open SEED File". Usually, this is because you do not have Ubuntu for %%os%% installed. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you don't have Ubuntu installed, and you know of another program to open your SEED file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Outdated Ubuntu
It is possible that your version of Ubuntu isn't able to open your Linux Preseed File file due to incompatibility. Visit the Open Source website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Ubuntu. The primary cause of this problem is that your Linux Preseed File file was created by a different (newer) version of Ubuntu than what's installed.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your SEED file and clicking "Properties".
Primarily, problems experienced when opening SEED files are due to having the incorrect version of Ubuntu installed on your computer.
More Causes of Problems Opening SEEDs
Errors opening Linux Preseed File files can still occur even with the latest Ubuntu software installed on your computer. If you are still having problems opening SEED files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Issues that aren't software-related:
- SEED file type Registry entries are wrong
- The SEED file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Ubuntu or another SEED application experienced a flawed installation
- Your SEED file is corrupted (issues with your Linux Preseed File file itself)
- Past or present virus infection has affected your SEED
- Device drivers for SEED-related hardware are out-of-date
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Linux Preseed File file
