Sources of CDMID Problems
Common Problems Opening CDMID Files
Unknown Software Not Present
When you double-click your CDMID file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Customarily, this means that Unknown Software is not installed on %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the CDMID file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you don't have Unknown Software installed, and you know of another program to open your CDMID file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Incorrect Unknown Software Version
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Unknown Software installed that's incompatible with your Unknown File Type type. Visit the Unknown Developer website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Unknown Software. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Investigate your CDMID file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening CDMID files are due to having the incorrect version of Unknown Software installed on your computer.
Other CDMID File Opening Causes
You can still experience errors opening CDMID files even with the latest version of Unknown Software installed on your PC. If you're still experiencing problems opening CDMID files, there could be other computer problems. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for CDMID
- Deletion of the CDMID file description from the Registry by mistake
