Troubleshoot JUT Files
Issues Opening JUT Files
Unknown Software Disappeared
When you double-click your JUT file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have Unknown Software for %%os%% installed. The OS won't know what to do with your JUT file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your JUT, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Unknown Software Requires Update
Sometimes your installed version of Unknown Software won't support your Uncommon File Extension file. If you've got the wrong version of Unknown Software installed, you'll need to install the correct version. Your Uncommon File Extension file was probably created by a newer release of Unknown Software than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Right-clicking on your JUT, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening JUT files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
More Causes of Problems Opening JUTs
Errors opening Uncommon File Extension files can still occur even with the latest Unknown Software software installed on your computer. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening JUT files. Other contributing causes:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for JUT
- Corruption of the JUT file description inside the Registry
- Corrupt install of Unknown Software or other JUT-related program
- Your JUT can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Your JUT has adversely impacted by malware
- Hardware associated with JUT has outdated drivers
- Windows cannot load your Uncommon File Extension file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
