Sources of NWG Problems
Troubles Opening NWG Files
Unknown Software Removed
When you double-click your NWG file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have Unknown Software for %%os%% installed. The typical path of opening your NWG with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: When another NWG application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Unknown Software is Out-of-Date
It is possible that your version of Unknown Software isn't able to open your Uncommon File Extension file due to incompatibility. You will need to download a newer version of Unknown Software if you don't have the right version. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Right-clicking on your NWG, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening NWG files are due to having the wrong version of Unknown Software installed.
Other Causes of NWG File Opening Problems
Even with the correct version of Unknown Software installed, you can still experience difficulties opening NWGs. If you are still having problems opening NWG files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Problems unrelated to software:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for NWG
- Corruption of the NWG file description inside the Registry
- Defective install of a NWG program, such as Unknown Software
- The NWG itself is corrupted
- NWG file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Hardware related to NWGs has device driver corruption
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Uncommon File Extension files
