Troubleshoot NYM Files
Frequent NYM Opening Issues
Unknown Software Removed
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open NYM Files" when trying to open your NYM. Usually, this is because you do not have Unknown Software for %%os%% installed. The OS won't know what to do with your NYM file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: Another NYM-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Wrong Version of Unknown Software is Installed
In other instances, your Shefield Dictionary file version may not be supported by your version of Unknown Software. If you do not have the proper version Unknown Software (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem is predominately due to having a Shefield Dictionary file version that was created by a newer version of Unknown Software than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Right-clicking on your NYM, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening NYM files are due to having the wrong version of Unknown Software installed.
More Causes of Problems Opening NYMs
Errors opening Shefield Dictionary files can still occur even with the latest Unknown Software software installed on your computer.
