SE Troubleshooting
Troubles Opening SE Files
Microsoft Notepad Removed
If you attempt to load your SE file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open SE Files". Usually, this is because you do not have Microsoft Notepad for %%os%% installed. Your operating system cannot associate your SE with Microsoft Notepad, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens SE files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Wrong Version of Microsoft Notepad is Installed
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Microsoft Notepad installed that's incompatible with your Shuttle Document type. Download the latest Microsoft Notepad version from the Microsoft Corporation website to ensure you have the correct one installed. Most of the time your Shuttle Document file was created by a newer Microsoft Notepad than what you have installed.
Tip: If you right-click on your SE file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Conclusion: The majority of SE file opening issues are due to not having the correct Microsoft Notepad version installed.
Other Causes of SE File Opening Problems
Even with the correct version of Microsoft Notepad installed, you can still experience difficulties opening SEs. If you are still having problems opening SE files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Other contributing causes:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for SE
- The SE file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Partial installation of Microsoft Notepad that did not fully complete
- Something has caused file corruption of your SE
- Your SE is infected with malware
- Drivers associated with SE software need to be updated
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Shuttle Document file
