Troubleshoot JAV Files
Troubles Opening JAV Files
Microsoft Notepad Removed
When trying to open your JAV file, you get the error "Can't Open JAV File Type". When this happens, it is commonly due to Microsoft Notepad missing in %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your JAV, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Microsoft Notepad Requires Update
In other instances, your Java Source Code file version may not be supported by your version of Microsoft Notepad. Download the latest Microsoft Notepad version from the Microsoft Corporation website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Investigate your JAV file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Summary: Not having the right Microsoft Notepad version on your computer can cause problems opening JAV files.
Other JAV File Issues
Even with the correct version of Microsoft Notepad installed, you can still experience difficulties opening JAVs. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening JAV files. Problems unrelated to software:
- Invalid JAV file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Accidental deletion of the description of the JAV file in the Windows registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the JAV format
- Your JAV file is corrupted (issues with your Java Source Code file itself)
- Malware-tainted JAV file can't be opened
- Drivers associated with JAV software need to be updated
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Java Source Code file
