Troubleshooting Problems Opening RPY Files
Typical RPY Opening Challenges
Touhou Project Not Present
Double-clicking your RPY file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open RPY File". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Touhou Project isn't installed on your PC. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: When another RPY application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Incorrect Touhou Project Version
It is possible that your version of Touhou Project isn't able to open your Touhou Project Replay File file due to incompatibility. Visit the Team Shanghai Alice website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Touhou Project. This issue mainly occurs when your Touhou Project Replay File file was created by a newer version of Touhou Project than you have on your PC.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the RPY file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening RPY files are due to having the incorrect version of Touhou Project installed on your computer.
Other Causes of RPY File Opening Problems
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Touhou Project will resolve your issue. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening RPYs. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- RPY file references in the Windows Registry are broken
