Inside, the venue, which has 72 bedrooms, has received new décor, furniture, carpets and bathrooms as well as a new kitchen.

Refreshed rendering and signage as well as window fittings in an art deco style with newly constructed extensions, including additional bedrooms, a new fish and chip shop and ice cream parlour have also been put in place.

Outside, the pub offers panoramic views of the shoreline below and boasts a newly created front terrace as well as new outdoor seating areas.

Donkin added: “We knew our improved bar and dining areas would attract new and local custom, but we are delighted to see so many people come down and be part of the first day of The Tynemouth Castle Inn’s new story.”

Joseph Holt reveals new look for Swinton pub

Family-run independent brewery and pub operator Joseph Holt has unveiled a new look for the Golden Lion in Swinton.

The Manchester-based firm, which has been in the same family or six generations, overhauled the venue’s exterior by repainting it blue as part of a £250,000 investment into the refurbishing the pub.

Other changes at the Golden Lion, the first Joseph Holt pub to be painted blue, include the installation of a pizza oven.

Joseph Holt estates executive Denis Maddocks said: “The Golden Lion has always been a popular pub and is well known in the area.

“However, it’s on the pavement of a busy road and when we decided to do the refurbishment, we wanted to make it more of a landmark.

“The colour we have chosen is a distinctive shade of blue which makes it hard to miss, enhances the rendered external walls and protects it from environmental discolouring.”
