Pub concocts craft beer ‘freakshake’ to celebrate birthday
Customers can try out a pale ale overloaded with tacos at the Howl at the Moon pub, in Hoxton, east London.
The beer is made by Bermondsey-based brewery Cellar Boys and topped with four tacos of the customer’s choice, with charred peppers and corn-on-the-cob.
Inspiration for the drink came from the popularity of freakshakes, which are high-calorie milkshakes, topped with towers of sweets and chocolate.
The tacos are made by chef David Larson, who heads Fatso Tacos, which has a residency at the pub.
Over the top
Gareth Boohig, bar manager at the Howl at the Moon pub said the beer was the natural result of the pub’s commitment to high-quality food and drink.
He said: “Customers go wild for it. Of course, it’s not one for a lot of our regulars or the beer purists out there, but people love it when it comes out as it’s so over the top and different.”
The pint costs £15 and was brewed to coincide with London’s Craft Beer Festival earlier this month.
Boohig added: “It’s proving a great one for Instagram savvy!”
The pub celebrated its 10th anniversary with a street party on Saturday 17 August, which featured live music and street food vendors.
