Pub food safety failings of 2016/17
From pest infestations to greasy equipment, pubs have to consider various ways in which to ensure they keep on the right side of the law.
Food safety splits itself into two areas – safety for the masses, which relates to general hygiene to banish food-borne illnesses, and safety for the individual, which relates to allergen information.
Food safety in the summer
The British Hospitality Association (BHA) warned operators of the five key food-safety issues they need to be aware of this summer.
BHA food-safety advisor Lisa Ackerley gave her top tips on what to look out for and how to avoid food-safety issues when the temperature rises.
These included barbecuing, serving outside, temperatures in the kitchen, food deliveries and fridge temperatures.
Improving food safety
In September last year, Mitchells & Butlers tested the Food Standards Agency (FSA) food scheme, which aimed to ease pressure on resource-strapped local authorities, improve food safety and adapt the then current Food Hygiene Rating Scheme.
The ‘Regulating our Future’ initiative was launched by the FSA last year in a bid to ensure food safety in the UK in response to limited local authority resources.
