Stockport-based brewer and pub operator Robinsons has vowed to help its pub partners and managers build more sustainable businesses by launching the Greener Retailing Guide 2024.

The publication has been made in collaboration with Manchester Metropolitan University and sees the sixth-generation family brewers open up their research and insight for all publicans to utilise.

This guide builds upon the original 2016 version and suggests enhanced recommendations and updated case studies – including insight from businesses such as Almond Family Pubs – aimed at encouraging sustainability within pubs while simultaneously driving cost-saving measures.

By focusing on key areas such as food and drink, energy, water, trade waste, cleaning and staff behaviour, the guide provides actionable strategies for publicans to implement initiatives within their businesses.

Free access via website

It is accessible for free on Robinsons’ website and provides an in-depth document for the whole hospitality industry to use.

“We recognise the importance of sustainability in today’s business landscape, and the Greener Retailing Guide serves as a valuable complimentary resource for those operating pubs,”

Robinsons Brewery sustainability champion Jack Manifold said: “It not only highlights the environmental benefits of adopting greener practices but also shows significant cost-saving opportunities that come with sustainability.”

The guide is designed to provide practical solutions to reduce their environmental footprint while enhancing operational efficiencies. From optimising energy consumption to changing staff behaviour and minimising food, beer and trade waste, it offers a holistic approach to sustainability tailored specifically for the pub estate.
