Rude Giant brewery to launch in Wiltshire
The formation of Rude Giant Brew Co sees a collective of local businesses come together. The founding partners include Dan Hancock of Immersive Group, Joe Robinson of Blonde Brothers, Lyall Dew formerly of Sixpenny Brewery and The Brew Shack, and Ethan Davids of Chickpea Group.
Unlike many new producers on the block, Wiltshire-based Rude Giant is not entering the ‘craft’ brewing arena but instead aims to make beers for all palates. The brewery said it is stripping brewing back to its roots, focusing on the basics and launching with a curated list of “quaffable drops”.
Rude Giant’s beers will be brewed with barley from the Great Bathampton farm and is malted at Warminster Maltings. The brewery sits prominently in the Wiltshire countryside and will start by supplying a number of local pubs and restaurants.
Taproom plan
Once the brewery is up and running, there are plans to open a taproom and a series of regular supper clubs in the same space.
Rude Giant Brew Co’s first releases to the south-west will include Rude Best (cask) 4% ABV, which it says is a “moreish, traditional bitter with a delicate balance of hoppy bitterness and malty backbone” while Rude Pale Ale (cask) 3.6% golden ale is claimed to have a full and rounded hop character with an ABV that suits summer – pub garden drinking.
Its other releases are Session Pale Ale (keg) 4.3% ABV session-strength Pale Ale, which is “fruity and smooth with a crisp bite that will leave you wanting more” and Rude Lager (keg) 4.5% ABV, said to have be a crisp, pilsner-inspired lager offering a “gentle and smooth malt lingering behind a clean and thirst-quenching finish”.
Get merry
Hancock said: “Since history began, human-kind has been developing ways to get merry. We are continuing that tradition. Hailing from the ancient hills of Wiltshire, Rude Giant is here to party and brew beer.”
Dew added: “Since the age of 16, I have been brewing cider with apples from my parents’ garden and making homebrew in uni dorms and airing cupboards. Brewing using local crushed malts and whole-leaf hops still inspires my brewing today.
“Our brewhouse allows us to bring traditional and modern styles together to brew everything from malt-driven cask beers to crisp lagers and more hoppy styles. Rude Giant is built on the belief that you don't need to be a connoisseur or critic to love good, tasty beer.”
