One of the world’s best-selling professional thermometers, the waterproof Thermapen (£60) measures temperatures from -49.9 to 299.9 °C. Perhaps its biggest strength in the hands of a chef is the speed at which it takes the “true” temperature of food.
It also has the kind of features you’d expect to find on a smartphone rather than a piece of kitchen kit, such as a self-rotating 360° screen and a light sensor which switches said screen’s backlight on when it gets dark.
Additionally, it has a battery life expectancy of approximately 3,000 hours from a single AAA battery and automatically turns off when it is put down.
