Understanding CPD Issues
Common CPD Opening Problems
Adobe RoboHelp Not Present
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open CPD Files" when trying to open your CPD. Customarily, this means that Adobe RoboHelp is not installed on %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the CPD file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your CPD, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Adobe RoboHelp Requires Update
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a RoboHelp Cache Project Database file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Download the latest Adobe RoboHelp version from the Adobe Systems Incorporated website to ensure you have the correct one installed. Your RoboHelp Cache Project Database file was probably created by a newer release of Adobe RoboHelp than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Right-clicking on your CPD, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Conclusion: The majority of CPD file opening issues are due to not having the correct Adobe RoboHelp version installed.
Other CPD File Opening Causes
Errors opening RoboHelp Cache Project Database files can still occur even with the latest Adobe RoboHelp software installed on your computer. If you are still having problems opening CPD files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Other contributing causes:
- File references in the Windows Registry for CPD are wrong
- Corruption of the CPD file description inside the Registry
- Corrupt install of Adobe RoboHelp or other CPD-related program
- File corruption affecting your CPD file
- Your CPD is infected with malware
- Hardware associated with CPD has outdated drivers
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the RoboHelp Cache Project Database format
