SS File Complications
Issues Opening SS Files
SilverStripe Disappeared
When you double-click your SS file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because SilverStripe isn't installed on your PC. Your operating system cannot associate your SS with SilverStripe, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: When another SS application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Outdated SilverStripe
In other instances, your SilverStripe Source Code File file version may not be supported by your version of SilverStripe. Installing the latest version of SilverStripe from Open Source is recommended. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of SS file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening SS files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Additional SS Opening Issues
Although you might already have SilverStripe or another SS-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening SilverStripe Source Code File files. Other SS opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Other contributing causes:
- File references in the Windows Registry for SS are wrong
- Corruption of the SS file description inside the Registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the SS format
- Your SS can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Past or present virus infection has affected your SS
- Hardware related to SSs has device driver corruption
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your SilverStripe Source Code File file successfully
