AIW Troubleshooting
Frequent AIW Opening Issues
Formula One 2001 is Not Installed
You attempt to load your AIW file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The AIW File Extension". When this happens, it is commonly due to Formula One 2001 missing in %%os%%. The typical path of opening your AIW with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: If you don't have Formula One 2001 installed, and you know of another program to open your AIW file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Wrong Version of Formula One 2001 is Installed
Your Formula One 2001 Game Data file is incompatible with Formula One 2001 because you might have the wrong version installed. You will need to download a newer version of Formula One 2001 if you don't have the right version. The primary cause of this problem is that your Formula One 2001 Game Data file was created by a different (newer) version of Formula One 2001 than what's installed.
Tip: Right-clicking on your AIW, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Conclusion: The majority of AIW file opening issues are due to not having the correct Formula One 2001 version installed.
Other AIW File Issues
Even with the correct version of Formula One 2001 installed, you can still experience difficulties opening AIWs. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening AIWs. Additional factors include:
- Invalid AIW file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- The AIW file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the AIW format
- Your AIW can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- The AIW is infected with a virus
- Hardware related to AIWs has device driver corruption
- Windows cannot load your Formula One 2001 Game Data file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
