Sources of KPD Problems
Common KPD Opening Problems
Kaspersky Anti-Virus is Not Installed
Double-clicking your KPD file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open KPD File". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Kaspersky Anti-Virus for %%os%% installed on your computer. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the KPD file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you don't have Kaspersky Anti-Virus installed, and you know of another program to open your KPD file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Incorrect Kaspersky Anti-Virus Version
It is possible that your version of Kaspersky Anti-Virus isn't able to open your Kaspersky Lab Application Description file due to incompatibility. Installing the latest version of Kaspersky Anti-Virus from Kaspersky Lab is recommended. The primary cause of this problem is that your Kaspersky Lab Application Description file was created by a different (newer) version of Kaspersky Anti-Virus than what's installed.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the KPD file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening KPD files are due to having the incorrect version of Kaspersky Anti-Virus installed on your computer.
Other KPD File Opening Causes
Although you might already have Kaspersky Anti-Virus or another KPD-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Kaspersky Lab Application Description files. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening KPDs. Problems unrelated to software:
- KPD file type Registry entries are wrong
- Unintentional removal of the description of the KPD file inside the Windows Registry
- Defective install of a KPD program, such as Kaspersky Anti-Virus
- The KPD itself is corrupted
- Your KPD is infected with malware
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your KPD file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Kaspersky Lab Application Description file successfully
